Remembering the Cost of Our Journey to 250

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, our hearts are focused on a profound debt. This year, as our nation stands on the threshold of its 250th anniversary, the significance of this day feels even more historic.

For nearly two and a half centuries, the American experiment has endured. But it has never been free.

The freedom we have to debate, dream, and celebrate 250 years of a grand idea was bought and paid for by the brave men and women who gave their yesterdays for our todays. They are the ones who held the line, from the Revolutionary War to the present day, ensuring that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people did not perish.

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude.” - Harry S. Truman

As we look forward to a historic milestone as a nation, let us first look back with deep reverence. Today is not about sales, the barbecues, or the long weekend—it’s about the empty chairs at America’s tables.

Today, we remember. We honor the fallen, we comfort the families left behind, and we resolve to live lives worthy of their immense sacrifice.

We at the Hershel House Woodbury Foundation wish you a meaningful, reflective Memorial Day.
